Sony Professional Hard Disc Drive

Up to 8 Hours of recording for XDCAM EX™ camcorders.*

With true 1920 x 1080 image sensors and true 1920 x 1080 recording, Sony`s XDCAM EX camcorders are among the industry`s most versatile. Now you can expand their capabilities even further. The PHU-120K is a hard disk unit that extends recording time up to 520 minutes (SP mode, 25 Mbps) or 400 minutes (HQ mode, 35 Mbps). **

A successor to the PHU-60K, the PHU-120K was developed to increase workflow efficiency, fulfilling the demand from professional camcorders or non-linear video editing systems for higher performance, reliability and lower bit cost.

Just think of all you can accomplish:

  • Record long events, including weddings, conventions and conferences.
  • Extended recording for documentaries and nature shoots can make the difference between capturing and missing the shot.
  • Perfect for dramas with high shooting ratios; more takes give your actors the opportunity to hone their parts.
  • Extended news events, including court cases, hearings, political conventions.
  • Capture entire baseball, football or soccer games on a single piece of media.

Sony Mobile Storage Unit

Successor to the light and robust PHU-120K, the new PHU-120R enables end-users to format the disk in one partition of 120GB or two partitions of 60GB. This allows videographers to capture up to 120GB of continuous footage without having to switch from one drive to another. Simply by selecting 120GB mode, it’s now possible to shoot up to 520 minutes of HD content in SP mode or 400 minutes in HQ mode without interruption. Such high storage capacity makes PHU-120R perfect for long recordings such as inside sport events, conferences, weddings or long documentaries.

As well as improving continuous recording opportunities, Sony has also enhanced reliability and stability with EX camcorders. The USB connector on the PHU-120R has been strengthened to minimise damage caused by sudden knocks or falls and a second shoe has been added on PMW-EX1R and PMW-350 camcorders for extra stability. Of course, the PHU- 120R still offers the same high security features of the PHU-120K including Cybercapture technology, a 3G sensor and Data Salvage function.

Highlights:

  • Record Time Per HDD Cartridge: HQ Mode: More than 13 hours / SQ Mode: More than 17 hours
  • One-Touch Copy to HDD Cartridge: COPY ONLY: ~600Mbps (10min for 32GB card or approx. 10x real time). COPY & VERIFY: ~300Mbps (20 min for 32GB card or approx. 5x real time)
  • High-Speed SxS Read Transfer Function: e-SATA Interface to connect with PC (Max. 800Mbps read transfer speed). Estimated Single Cartridge Ingest Time is less than 1 Hour (up to 17 hours per cartridge @ 35Mbps)
  • Internal shock absorbers. The cartridge has an internal HDD which is suspended inside the PXU-HC240 chassis by four specially engineered dampers that help protect against shock.
  • 3G shock detection. As in a laptop PC, this system senses a potential shock and temporarily "parks" the read/write heads away from the hard disk surface, to help protect the disk from damage.
